Located in The Legends district in Kansas City, Kansas, the Kansas City Quilt Museum (KCQM) offers distinctive spaces for meetings, educational programs, receptions, and private celebrations in a setting inspired by the art of quilting.

When you host your event at the Museum, you also help support our mission to preserve and celebrate America's quilting heritage.

Our flexible lobby event space can be configured for lectures, presentations, meetings, receptions, and private celebrations. Depending on the room layout and event format, the space comfortably accommodates groups of approximately 50 to 150 guests while providing excellent sightlines and display opportunities.

Museum membership is not required to reserve event space. However, members at select levels receive discounted rental rates. Rental fees vary based on the space reserved, event duration, and other requirements. See our Facility Rental Rates for complete details.


Available Spaces

Three distinct spaces across the Museum, each suited to a different scale and style of gathering.

Museum Lobby

This 1st floor space is perfect for smaller or larger groups seeking a place to meet or celebrate. With audio-visual functionality (computer connection to LCD screens, and microphones available) this location is ideal for lectures, meetings, receptions, dining events, and galas.

Maximum Capacity

  • Reception setup with buffet tables and limited seating: 50 – 150 persons
  • Auditorium setting (chairs only): up to 192 persons
  • Meal setup: 50 – 104 persons, with a maximum of 13 tables of 8 for a buffet or table-serviced event
  • Built-in bar
  • Recognition on welcome screens

Education Center

The 2nd floor Education Center classroom spaces can be accessed by elevator or staircase. The windowless room(s) with audio-visual functionality offer a focused environment for your event. See the Second Floor plan for layout details.

Maximum Capacity

  • Preset room with up to 20 tables and 40 chairs — can be divided into 2 sections
  • 25 persons per room, or 50 people in total
  • Built-in counters for food and beverage service

Welcome Center & Meeting Room

The 2nd floor Welcome Center gathering space and nearby meeting room can be accessed by elevator or staircase. There is audio-visual capability in the meeting room. See the Second Floor plan for layout details.

Capacity

  • Meeting Room: preset large table and 10 chairs
  • Built-in buffet counter for food & beverage service
  • Nearby informal gathering space

Is the venue ADA accessible?

Yes, all of our spaces are ADA accessible.

What are your beverage service policies?

Beverage services are handled by the Museum. Restrictions apply. Event sponsors must complete the Facility Rental Policy document and forward it to the Museum at least 30 days prior to the event.

What are your catering services?

Professional caterers are required. A list of professional caterers will be provided. A catering kitchen is available. Dinnerware, kitchen utensils, service ware, and service staff must be supplied by the caterer.

Do you have an onsite event coordinator?

Yes, the Museum's event coordinator will be onsite for your event to make certain that the Museum's obligations are met.

What spaces can be used for food and beverage service?

Food and beverage can be enjoyed in the lobby, Education Center, and Welcome Center spaces. Food and beverage are not permitted in exhibition galleries or retail spaces.

What furniture and inventory is available?

KCQM has tables — up to 13, 60" rounds with seating for 8 — and up to 200 chairs that are included in rental fees. An assortment of linen is available for rental.

Is there an outdoor area for a reception?

No, KCQM has only indoor spaces for events.

Is photography permitted?

Yes, during events. Access to our grounds and indoor common areas is available for one-of-a-kind photography for a maximum of 2 hours. Ask for a price quote.

Is there a designated smoking area?

Yes. There is a designated exterior location to the south of the building.

Is there a secure area to store items during the event?

Yes, we offer a ready room included in your rental.

What technology services are available?

The lobby is suitable for in-person visual presentations, panel discussions, and acoustic musical performances.

Can political or religious events be held here?

No, to uphold our nonprofit status, political and religious events cannot be held at KCQM.
